  • Why did you start this platform?
We started Spliff99FM to create a unique, inclusive space where the LGBTQ+ community could connect through their love for Hip Hop and R&B. We wanted to craft a station that not only celebrates diversity but also showcases the vibrant, authentic spirit of our community. With a focus on bringing together beats, pride, and unity, Spliff99FM is all about amplifying voices, spreading love, and delivering top-notch music that resonates with our listeners. It's more than just a station—it's a celebration of who we are and what we stand for.
  • Where is your studio located?
Our studio is set up in the bonus room of DJ Zooted's apartment in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Despite the cozy setup, it's a hub of creativity and energy where all the magic of Spliff99FM happens. From this space, DJ Zooted manages everything—from spinning tracks to crafting content—bringing the vibrant sounds of Hip Hop and R&B right to your speakers.
  • How big is your team? Who makes all this happen?
At Spliff99FM, DJ Zooted, given name Shane, is responsible for every aspect of the station. This is a one-man show, with DJ Zooted handling programming, curating music, developing content, and managing the website. His passion for Hip Hop and R&B, combined with a commitment to inclusivity and authenticity, ensures that Spliff99FM not only sounds amazing but also represents the values and vibrancy of our LGBTQ+ audience. DJ Zooted's dedication and hands-on approach make every aspect of the station a true reflection of his vision and energy.
  • Why do I sometimes hear short periods of silence?
Spliff99FM runs on a single laptop that's cranking 24/7, keeping the beats alive and the vibes high. We use a bunch of slick software and gear to keep the station rocking. But, with so much going on, sometimes the computer might have a hiccup, which can cause a brief pause in playback. Dead air is a major no-no in radio, so we’ve got systems in place that spot when our signal goes quiet. As soon as that happens, our virtual IT tech jumps in to restart everything and get us back on the air. Usually, the track that was playing when the hiccup occurred will kick off from the start again. This process typically limits any dead air to about 15 seconds. Thanks for rolling with us and for your patience!
  • While listening to your station the playback has become choppy. What's happening over there?
Our broadcast comes to you through an internet stream, so if you’re listening on your mobile device and something else takes over your audio—like a video, an incoming call, or anything else—our stream will pause on your end. When it picks back up, it might not always resume smoothly. No worries, though! Just refresh the browser window for the audio player streaming our station and hit Play. That should put you right back in the mix!
  • I love to vibe with you late night. Your station will sometimes go offline during these hours. Why is that?
Running Spliff99FM on a single laptop can crank up the pressure. That’s why we hit the reset button daily at 4:20am Eastern Time for what we like to call our "Station Smoke Break." We’re cooking up a failproof plan to keep the beats blasting through this restart and any other hiccups that may take us offline. For now, it’s a little shy of two minutes of downtime while all systems fire back up. Thanks for sticking with us!
